What It Takes To Be A Key Person Of Influence

Episode Overview

In this special episode, I bring together insights from multiple entrepreneurs who attended the Ski Person of Influence trip in Italy – an event hosted by Daniel Priestley, founder of Dent Global and author of “Key Person of Influence.” I gathered profound lessons about entrepreneurship, influence, and creating impact from these business leaders who’ve become friends and colleagues.

Key Highlights

The Power of Community & Different Perspectives

  • Michael Chamberlain (Business Recovery Expert) shared that there’s no single recipe or route to market – success is underpinned by years of hard work, experimental trials, and pivoting.
  • Tony Salimi (Transformational Life Strategist) described how the SPI community serves as a mirror, reflecting back both what you could do and what you’ve already overcome.

Lessons in Consistency & Patience

  • We discussed Jason Greystone’s incredible story of a single long-form YouTube video generating $12 million in revenue – but only after a decade of consistent content creation and 20 years of learning his subject.
  • I learned that success rarely happens overnight – the ecosystem behind breakthroughs often includes years of foundation-building.

Authenticity in Business

  • Bella Clark (Financial Planner) observed how many entrepreneurs’ perceived weaknesses or vulnerabilities are actually their greatest strengths – qualities that may have caused trouble in traditional employment become business advantages.
  • Rosita (Tax Consultant) shared her surprise at the unexpected spirituality across the group – how seeking deeper fulfillment was a core driver of success for many.

The North Star Concept

  • We explored having an unattainable goal that provides direction and includes an element of contribution
  • Bella described the “contribution emotion” as a protective factor against entrepreneurial challenges
  • I learned how focusing on serving others creates resilience and helps entrepreneurs bounce back

Entrepreneurship as a Team Sport

  • Vedran Peric (Leadership & Team Performance) highlighted that entrepreneurship isn’t a solo journey but benefits tremendously from community
  • We discussed the importance of stepping out of comfort zones to connect with others
  • I found immense value in vulnerability and those deep “black run conversations” Daniel encouraged

The Environment Factor

  • Camilla Collins (Confidence Coach) explained how the physical environment (mountains) creates perspective and clarity
  • I saw firsthand how being in the right setting with the right people catalyzes creativity and innovation
  • We noted how learning from diverse businesses helps entrepreneurs think outside the box

Focus & Implementation

  • Andrew Croesdale (Octopus Leadership) offered this gem: “Focus on the next step, not the staircase” – breaking down overwhelming options into actionable steps
  • Andrew showed me how using experience (in his case, 30 years in policing) can deliver value in a completely new context

Adaptability & Letting Go

  • Dr. Vivian Hayhoe (Wellspring Global) reflected on how the entrepreneurial journey sometimes requires letting go of rigid plans
  • I appreciated her insights on finding balance between strategic planning and being present in the moment

The Emotional Journey

  • Pedro Andrade (CompLayer) reminded us that entrepreneurship is an emotional game with high highs and low lows
  • We discussed the importance of finding the right people with whom you can be vulnerable

Reframing Failure

  • Jasper Steinhausen (Business with Impact) shared how sometimes we have all the right components but aren’t using them in the right way
  • I loved his advice on looking at previous “failures” with fresh perspective – how a small 10% shift can transform results

My Key Takeaway

My biggest lesson from this trip is to ask good questions and get curious about other human beings. One of the most powerful questions someone asked me was: “What’s the one question nobody’s asked you that you wish they would?” This opened up a two-hour conversation about an exciting business idea I hadn’t shared with anyone before.

Final Thought

I want to remind you that true influence isn’t about money – it’s about the impact and dent you create in the world and the lives you transform. You can have both impact and financial success; it’s not an either/or choice.
